INTERWOVEN Festival 2022

The Interwoven Festival is back in Dewsbury for 2022, with wonderful performances, workshops and talks!

The INTERWOVEN festival celebrates the heritage of the Kirklees area, celebrating its mill heritage and its current mixture of machinery, work, community and stories. INTERWOVEN 2022 explores the ‘…the history of the local Shoddy and Mungo industry, from its beginnings, to the present day and makes connections between the recycling processes which inspired its creation and the environmental concerns of the present day textile industry.

The festival includes a variety of events, from perfomances, exhibitons, talk and workshops taking place in Dewsbury from Saturday 30th April to Sunday 15th May 2022.

There are so many wonderful talks and workshops to attend including The Shoddy Factory workshop, Embroidery for Longer Lasting Clothes, Weaving words poetry workshop and more.

On 6th May there will be a special performance by the INTERWOVEN Ensemble, perfoming  'Round and Around: The Story of Shoddy in Song'. The piece was written especially for the festival and is inspired by the stories of the textile industry from local people, including our very own John Parkinson! The music will celebrate the diverse landscape of the textiles industry and the local people involved in the industry, giving Kirklees such a rich textile heritage.

Tickets are required for performances but workshops and talks are free, however you will need to book a slot.
