Trend Forecast: New Wave Psychedelic
A trend that has been popular over Spring/Summer 21 and will continue into Autumn/Winter 21/22 is the new wave psychedelic inspired by 1970s aesthetic. The wave design will add movement and refresh knitwear, prints and interiors.
Over recent years there has been a revival for ‘vintage’ items, whether these be new items inspired by past decades or second-hand pieces that younger generations would consider as vintage. With this, there is a focus of reviving the aesthetics from past decades to make them more contemporary while appreciating the original styles from that decade.
The ‘trippy’ wave designs can be used as daywear and evening/party wear and can be paired with neutrals or a contrasting print, making it a versatile design. The design is gender inclusive and can be perfect as a trans-seasonal piece, therefore it is considered as a more sustainable design.
With a connection to neutral, earthy tones and natural movement, using sustainable materials and sources would elevate this trend. For knitwear, techniques such as intarsia would save yarn while recycled yarn or space dyed yarn would add depth to the pieces.
What do you think of this trend? Will you be wearing some new wave knitwear over Autumn and Winter?
